Mission and Vision

Duke Kunshan University (“DKU”) is a Sino-American partnership between Wuhan University and Duke University. We seek to create a world-class liberal arts and research university that offers a comprehensive range of academic programs for students from China and throughout the world. We are a nonprofit, joint-venture institution. In September 2013, the Chinese Ministry of Education approved our accreditation, and Duke Kunshan University welcomed our inaugural class of students in August 2014.

At Duke Kunshan University, we value continuous innovation. In that spirit, we are developing a new Institute of Applied Physical Sciences and Engineering (“iAPSE). iAPSE has three critical missions:

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Global Leadership
  • Knowledge in Service to Society

To fulfill its missions, iAPSE will develop academic programs and research centers that will offer academic opportunities and services to society. It will also act as a bridge between Duke Kunshan University and Duke University, allowing both universities to explore a broad spectrum of possibilities in international education, interdisciplinary research, cultural development, and technology adoption in China.
