Juncheng Liu is a student in the Class of 2024 in the Master’s Program of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Duke Kunshan University. Currently, he is in his second year of study in the United States at Duke University. Impressions of Juncheng from his peers include these keywords: “most reliable class monitor,” “social butterfly,” “master of time management,” “superb charisma,” “multi-talented youth,” and “leadership qualities,” etc. Despite being a diligent “ECEer” with heavy academic workloads, he frequently participates in various activities while also serving as the student representative and a teaching assistant at DKU. After completing his first year of study, he joined the HSBC Summer Internship Program, embarking on his career exploration journey.

Embracing Busyness: Juncheng's Approach to Anxiety and Productivity

“Busyness is both the source of my anxiety and the antidote to my anxiety.”

For Juncheng, the sense of busyness brought about by his “multiple identities” is both “the source of my anxiety and the antidote to my anxiety.” “Participating in so many activities actually forces me to manage my time better and complete my studies and other tasks more efficiently.” When it comes to dealing with feelings of anxiety, he says, “I had a pretty good mindset at the time: anxiety is a normal emotion, but it doesn’t solve problems. Problems will still be there, and they are meant to be solved, not to be anxious about. Instead of being anxious, it’s better to choose one thing to start with, step by step, solving it. Never get caught in a loop of anxiety and not knowing what to do.”

Bridging Knowledge and Career: Juncheng's Perspective on Job Hunting

The field of computer science is vast. So, how can one unify the pursuit of knowledge with job hunting? He mentioned this matter: “I believe the significance of university lies not in preparing you for a job, but in cultivating the ability to quickly learn and apply new knowledge through various forms of assignments. Therefore, the ‘pursuit of knowledge’ in school forms the basis for ‘job hunting’ in the future.” Juncheng believes that supplementing the knowledge that matches the position is crucial during job hunting.

Exploring Diverse Paths with Passion: Juncheng’s Advice for a Fulfilling Life

When it comes to future career planning, Juncheng believes that his career plan is quite dynamic, involving trying out multiple directions simultaneously. At the same time, he also advises undergraduate students not to predefine their paths and to take the time to intern in different positions to discover their interests. “Approaching life with curiosity, trying various directions that interest oneself, and then investing 100% of passion into one’s true passion” is Juncheng’s attitude towards life.
