Software Engineer
Yang Cao graduated from DKU ECE in 2022. She is now working as a software development engineer at Microsoft. When talking about DKU ECE, Yang said frankly that it was a surprise when she coincidentally found the newly opened ECE program at Duke Kunshan University. The study direction of data analysis direction of the program is in line with her experience as well as her future development plan. With the blessing of her own efforts and family support, she successfully enrolled in DKU ECE. “Undoubtedly, the program helped me open the door to my industrial career. I was not a data-major student, it was DKU ECE that taught me the necessary skills and knowledge as a programmer. And the setting, 1+1 (first year at DKU, and second year at Duke), allowed me to apply for OPT so that I can work in my current position.”
While looking back on her experience of job seeking, Yang faced many difficulties. “I was the last one of our classmates to find a job. The job market was not optimistic, and I was not very competitive. It was a dark time for me, but there are always solutions to difficulties, even if there are various costs.” She said to be brave to face the current darkest moment, the accumulation of the past will become your bottom. While facing choices, she shared the suggestion, “If you are hard to make a choice, it means the choices are almost the same for you under the current perception. Whichever path you choose, is the best thing you can do, and there is no need to regret it later. After all, no one has an omniscient perspective.”
